PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder)

A mental health condition that can develop after experiencing or witnessing a traumatic, terrifying event or series of events. The key aspects of PTSD include:

Re-experiencing the traumatic event through intrusive thoughts, nightmares, flashbacks or distressing mental/physical reactions to reminders of the trauma. Avoidance of things associated with the traumatic event, such as people, places, conversations, activities.

Negative changes in thoughts and mood, such as negative beliefs about oneself/others, persistent fear/horror, detachment from others, inability to experience positive emotions. Increased arousal and reactivity, such as being easily startled, irritable, reckless, having difficulty sleeping or concentrating.

These symptoms will be long lasting and cause significant distress/problems in daily functioning.
They will have been triggered by exposure to an extremely traumatic event involving actual or threatened death, serious injury or sexual violence.

PTSD differs from a normal stress reaction in that the symptoms are more severe, persistent and disruptive to ones life. It often co-occurs with other conditions like depression and substance abuse.
Basically, PTSD is an anxiety disorder characterised by re- experiencing, avoidance, negative cognitions/mood, and hyperarousal - all stemming from exposure to a profoundly
distressing traumatic event.

Whatever triggers your PTSD it will lead to a series of events actions and reactions that will continually repeat and cause the sufferer to experience continually relive the trauma. We use a range of NLP and Time Line® techniques that we can employ to help you deal more effectively with the root causes of
your symptoms and prevent the reactions.
